Florida scrub jays are only found in Florida, and live primarily in at-risk scrub habitats. I'm told they eat the acorns from sand oaks for a large part of their diet! Jonathan Dickenson State Park was the inspiration for this piece. I visited the park several times this year to get better acquained with scrub habitats and with this fascinating species. I saw several scrub jays on my visits! References for the oak leaves come from my visits to the park, and the reference for the scrub jay comes from Holly Youngblood Cannon (used with permission).

 

Current threats to scrub jays include the toll road they are attempting to buid through Split Oak Forest, the TAG Lakeside development, and the golf course/pickelball court proposal at state parks like Jonathan Dickenson.
