Monotype, diptych, 8.25 x 8.5" and 8.5 x 11.5" (about 20" long together)
A piece from my Intaglio Printmaking class project, Pine Rockland Ecosystem! All the pieces from this series are etchings or monotypes (a process that produces singular, unique results with a traditional press). It received the Friedland Project Grant from FAU (a grant for students) in 2016, and I used the funds on framing!
This one is a ditych: on one side featuring the very important burrow of the tortoise, and on the other featuring the herbaceous plants that make up it's diet. These two pieces used to be seperately framed, but it looked a little too awkward to me. I suggest framing the two pieces together next to each other!
Pine Rocklands are a rare habitat only found in South Florida, The Bahamas and Cuba. Gopher tortoises are one of the many important species that can be found here. They are one of the only burrowing animals, so hundreds of species rely on their burrows as homes (like the burrowing owl... which doesn't burrow!! It just uses tortoise burrows!!).
